Day 24: 30 paintings in 30 days

I love watching ice skating and I couldn’t help myself–I had to paint ice skating chickens! Here are the pairs champions now in 18th place from Fowllandia. Is she saying “Srsly! Get me another partner, pleeeeeze”

And is he saying “OMG! Is she a diva or what?”

Day 23: 30 Paintings in 30 Days

I’ve been exploring layers in Procreate.  For this piece, each color is on a different layer and I can make endless variations based on which layers I choose to show or hide.  I’ve been wanting to paint a side view poppy painting and here it is.  I like the moody background today, so those are the layers I chose to show.

Day 22: 30 paintings in 30 days

I found this great photo on a “paint my photo” type of site.  And in Procreate, I found a brush that actually painted “wood,” so that was fun to play with. I tried to make the wood look weathered using a couple of washes of paint on top of the wood. Looking at it now, I guess I should have made the sky look like sunrise!

Day 20: 30 paintings in 30 days

Having grown weary of the previous app I was using (called ArtRage), I yearned for more variety of effects, color choices, brush styles, and other options.  I have switched to a new drawing app called Procreate.  Wow! What a difference it makes, I think.  Also, I discovered a web site that has photos available for painters to use.  I’ve been using some of the photos as inspiration, so that may account for the difference (I was running out of ideas on my own) :-).  So the composition and subject matter is “borrowed” from the photo, but the colors, backgrounds, and such come from me.  And of course, I have to cute-i-fy things, like the mouse.

Day 19: 30 paintings in 30 days

Two of my favorite colors: green and purple especially when used together.  Just playing with ArtRage!  This might be my last ArtRage digital painting for these 30 days.  I want to move on the Procreate, which so far seems a lot more sophisticated and more painterly. But alas, no gloop pen equivalent.

Day 16: 30 Paintings in 30 Days

I’m still using ArtRage because the options seem to be endless, but I’m anxious to try other apps, like Procreate.  Maybe this weekend.  So for Day 16 I painted a sunflower.  I used the oil brush for the petals and love how the brush fibers show depending on how much pressure I use.
